Cayo Coco (Jardines del Rey)

The keys and islands that were baptized in Cuba by Spanish colonizers (between 1513 and 1514) to honor King Ferdinand II the Catholic, as Jardines del Rey (King's Gardens), have a singular beauty in their landscape. Key Coco and Key Guillermo (two of the most outstanding ones) are natural places ideal for sea related sports and recreation with sandy beaches protected by coral reefs and abundant forest vegetation that shelter a diverse fauna where pink flamingos reign.

The archipelago is located to the north of the Ciego de Avila province in the center-east of Cuba, between Sancti Spíritus province (to the west) and Camaguey (to the east). Key Coco has 370 square km and Key Guillermo 13.3 square km. One can get there by plane arriving at the recently inaugurated International Airport. The area has also links with the rest of the country with regular domestic flights. There is also a 17 km road linking Key Coco with the rest of the road network of the country. Key Coco, Key Guillermo and Key Paredon Grande are united by a road. The marinas at Key Guillermo provide migration, customs procedures and life on board services.

This destination has modern hotels with facilities ranging between 4 and 5 stars categories on the All Inclusive mode. Also in Ciego de Avila and Moron, several hotels provide a good service. The International Sport Fishing Center is located at Jardines del Rey.

To the excellent conditions available for sea related sports we can add the high level of conservation of the area's land and sea ecosystems, with a great beauty and a varied bird fauna with more than 200 species.

The natural environment present in the small islands is perfect for trekking and fauna and flora exploration. Key Coco and its surroundings islets are among the areas included in the Buenavista Biosphere Reserve. El Bagá Natural Park is an ideal option for nature tourism. Cities like Morón, Ciego de Ávila and Florencia will get you in touch with the culture of the area.
